LANDSCAPE LEAD HAND

LANDSCAPE LEad Hand:
$31-$37/hr

You have noted and marketable skills as a landscape professional. You are an essential part of the team and your work ethic has not gone unnoticed. At this point in your landscape career we'd like to send you for ICPI and NCMA certification. As a hardscape installer you are perhaps one of the most sought after trades in the green industry. This position is generally achieved within 2-3yrs working in the industry.

-Your roles and responsibilities have now considerably evolved.

-The finish and overall quality of the project is directly in your hands. You will touch almost every block and paver that gets installed in the project along the way.

-You are expected to have considerable skill in creating grades, laying pavers, excavation and hauling and efficient use of time in all aspects of the project. We are a high-end company and high-end installations are the only acceptable finish for our clients.

-Operate and maintain all machinery, trucks and trailers.

-You are now in a mentoring role, helping apprentices who are starting out just like you once did become proficient and successful landscape professionals who make your day to day easier.

-Be able to read a site drawing.

-Be competent and efficient at all types of paver and slab laying including modular, stack and running bond, herringbone and others. Maintain an appealing paver laying pattern for modular projects and straight bond lines on linear projects.

-Set up and use a transit to establish grades for a project based on the worksite.

-Understand the fundamentals of hardscape construction and be well versed with different types of base installations – traditional, permeable, hybrid, raised structure and synthetic.

-Set screed bars according to the final grade of the project. Screed and compact areas in preparation for laying pavers, slabs or walls.

-Free-grade base in areas where bars can not be used.

-Check for square and level constantly over the course of a project. Notify the foreman if you think you see potential issues on site.

-Confidently mark and cut pavers.

-Fuel and grease all fittings on the excavator, skid steer and mini-track loader.

-Confidently load and unload machines from the float trailer using proper tie downs.

-Read and understand grade drawings.

-Assist in installing large size paver and slab materials using vac and excavator equipment.

-Be able to set up and use a transit to establish base depth on a project.

-Dig within one inch (+/-) of specified base grade with the excavator.

-Load trucks with the skid steer and excavator.

-Maintain cleanliness and organization of bulk materials on the street.

-Backblade and grade using the skid steer bucket to “float” materials. Up until the finished grade the backfilling is mostly relied upon to be done by the machine operator and must be set to correct heights to avoid under-compaction or time wasted by removing excess material.

-Operate all attachments correctly and efficiently.

-Install both plastic and modified cement edging proficiently.

-Sand and polish projects to completion.

Install softscapes to a high degree including grading and compacting top soil, laying sod, plantings and mulch/riverstone installation.

Remember, a great hardscape installer is a well-rounded landscaper who's not too proud to do all the tasks that helped get him or her to that position.

We want you to succeed and to be proud of the projects that we're turning out as a team. Once you've become a great installer, it's time to share as much as you can with the apprentices beneath you since you'll soon be considered for a Foreman position.
